SERVICES AND FACILITIES

The Department of Pulmonology at SHRI Hospitals, focuses on the diagnosis and management of disorders relating to the respiratory system, including the lungs, upper airways, thoracic cavity and chest wall. It is a one-stop centre for all lung related diseases.

Pulmonology is superspeciality that deals with preventing, diagnosing and treating lung conditions and respiratory tract. Our specialists are trained in managing conditions like asthma, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, tuberculosis, and other severe chest infections.

At SHRI, we offer multidisciplinary treatment including bronchoscopy for patients who have lung cancer, COPD, sleep problems. We offer the best care to our patients with our fully equipped pulmonary function laboratory along with Bronchoscopy.

We comprise a team of experts who also provide ancillary services, including respiratory care and nutrition in a comprehensive set up.

Asthma

It is a lung disorder due to which the airways get inflamed, narrow and swollen resulting in breathing issues. Some of the common symptoms include wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Also known as COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease refers to a group of lung diseases that lead to blockage in the airflow causing breathing issues. The common conditions in COPD are chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Common signs and symptoms are wheezing, chronic cough, bluish fingernails, unexplained weight loss and shortness of breath.

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a contagious disease and can spread when the patient sneezes or coughs. Common symptoms are pain in the chest, fatigue, fever, chronic cough, shortness of breath, night sweats among others.

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Pneumonia:

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is caused by infectious insults, such as pneumonia from various pathogens or related to other noninfectious events. Clinical and histopathologic characteristics are similar across severely affected patients, suggesting that a common mode of immune reaction may be involved in the immunopathogenesis of ARDS. There may be etiologic substances that have an affinity for respiratory cells and induce lung cell injury in cases of ARDS. These substances originate not only from pathogens, but also from injured host cells. At the molecular level, these substances have various sizes and biochemical characteristics, classifying them as protein substances and non-protein substances. Immune cells and immune proteins may recognize and act on these substances, including pathogenic proteins and peptides, depending upon the size and biochemical properties of the substances (this theory is known as the protein-homeostasis-system hypothesis). The severity or chronicity of ARDS depends on the amount of etiologic substances with corresponding immune reactions, the duration of the appearance of specific immune cells, or the repertoire of specific immune cells that control the substances. Therefore, treatment with early systemic immune modulators (corticosteroids and/or intravenous immunoglobulin) as soon as possible may reduce aberrant immune responses in the potential stage of ARDS.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD)

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a group of many lung conditions. All interstitial lung diseases affect the interstitium, a part of your lungs.
The interstitium is a lace-like network of tissue that goes throughout both lungs. It supports your lungs’ tiny air sacs, called alveoli. Normally, the interstitium is so thin that it doesn’t show up on X-rays or CT scans.

Lung Cancer

This is the most serious lung disease during which there is an overproduction of abnormal cells in the lung that leads to the formation of a malignant tumour. The common symptoms are cough, chest pain, weight loss and wheezing.
Most of the pulmonary diseases have similar symptoms. This is the reason that the person who experiences any of them must visit the best pulmonology hospital for an accurate diagnosis. After the diagnosis, the doctors can suggest the treatment options which suit the condition.
Treatments
Be it the treatment for asthma, cancer or lung diseases, we at Samishta hospital & research institute(SHRI), offer the best care to our patients. Some of the common treatment options that are adopted to help the patient lead a healthy life are as follows:

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

It is a program through which doctors help the patient in managing the symptoms and improve their quality of life through various exercises and awareness sessions at lungs hospital.
